In Guinea, a strong delegation led by Prime Minister Amadou Oury BAH and the Minister Secretary General of the Presidency, General Amara Camara, dispatched by the Head of State, President Mamadi Doumbouya to present sincere condolences to the population of N’Zérékoré following the tragedy that occurred at the April 3 stadium.
It should be noted that this tragedy officially left 56 dead and several injured, according to the Guinean government.
The violence broke out during a match on Sunday afternoon in N’Zerekore, home to 200,000 people, where rival fans stormed the field following a controversial referee decision, news site Guineenews reported.
The Guinean Government reacted to the incidents that occurred during the final of the tournament with the General Mamadi Doumbouya trophy which pitted N’zérékoré against Labé on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
While deploring these incidents, the Guinean Government reassures that measures are being taken to restore calm.
Relatedly,the Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) President Dr Patrice Motsepe is deeply saddened by the stadium stampede in Guinea that has reportedly claimed the lives of over 50 football fans and and left others injured during a football match at the Stade du 3 Avril in N’Zérékoré.
CAF President Dr Motsepe conveys his and CAF’s deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, the Fédération Guinéenne de Football (“FGF”) Leadership and the people of Guinea.
Dr Motsepe also wished a speedy recovery to the injured football fans.
