All That Glitters is Gold: Ndejje University Shines Bright at Eastern Africa Games

As the sun set on Maseno University’s sprawling grounds, the chants of Ndejje University athletes filled the air, echoing a spirit of unyielding determination. “Hard work pays off,” they said, their voices a testament to months of blood, sweat, and tears. For the eighth time, Ndejje stood atop the podium, their golden haul proving that slow and steady does indeed win the race.

With 34 gold, 35 silver, and 29 bronze medals in their kitty, Ndejje outshone all rivals, though their glow dimmed slightly compared to their 2022 tally of 59 golds. Yet, as the saying goes, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.” Ndejje’s athletes, despite the decline, showcased grit and teamwork, silencing critics who doubted their ability to sustain their dominance.

The competition, however, was no walk in the park. Kenya’s USIU-Africa bagged 17 golds, taking second place, while Uganda Christian University (UCU) proved that every cloud has a silver lining by earning a career-best 15 golds and securing third. Meanwhile, Makerere University, Gulu University, and Makerere University Business School left their marks, reminding everyone that the lion’s share of talent remains in Uganda.

As the curtains closed on the 13th edition, the stage is set for Tanzania in 2026. For Ndejje and its challengers, the road ahead promises fierce battles and opportunities to turn the tide. Indeed, the Eastern Africa University Games are more than just medals—they are a crucible where champions are forged, and dreams are turned into reality.
