Kamira Asha, a trendsetting sports photographer, has graduated with flying colors today January 16, 2025, from Makerere Business School with a Bachelor’s degree in Office and Information Management. Her academic journey, fueled by a district quota scholarship earned through stellar UACE results, provided a firm foundation. Yet, it was her passion for photography that took center stage, shaping her into one of Uganda’s most celebrated sports photojournalists. Kamira’s story is a vivid testament to the saying, “Success is where preparation meets opportunity.”

Her love affair with the camera began in 2022 during her senior six vacation when she enrolled at Kiswahili Media School. This short but impactful course blended online lessons with practical sessions at the Uganda Media Center, offering her early exposure to the media industry. Kamira’s dedication soon bore fruit as she joined She Corporate FC as a media officer. Her lens captured the team’s victories in the 2022-2023 FUFA Women’s Super League and their impressive CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers performance. Despite the team’s relegation in the 2023-2024 season, Kamira remained undeterred, documenting their Elite League triumph and FUFA Women’s Cup victory.
In 2024, Kamira ventured into covering men’s football in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, marking her breakthrough year. “Joining men’s football was a game changer,” Kamira shared, describing how it expanded her horizons and networks. Her exceptional work earned her a co-hosting role on Sports Arena at 97.7 Record Radio, alongside seasoned journalists. As she sharpened her skills, accolades followed, including a nomination for Uganda’s Best Photo journalist in 2025. Competing against industry stalwarts, Kamira stood tall as the only female nominee, proving that “the early bird catches the worm.”
Kamira’s meteoric rise highlights the power of passion and perseverance. From holding a camera as a hobby to earning recognition on a national stage, her journey is a beacon of hope for aspiring photographers. “Take chances wisely, believe in yourself, and know what you want,” she advises young women. As she dons her graduation gown, Kamira Asha’s story reminds us all that success often begins with chasing a dream and turning life’s snapshots into a legacy.
