Kampala, Uganda – February 17, 2025 – The highly anticipated 3rd edition of the CAVB Zone V Club Championship is set to take place in Kampala, Uganda, from February 26 to March 4, 2025. With over 20 teams confirmed, this year’s tournament marks a historic milestone as the largest-ever gathering of volleyball clubs in the region. Matches will be played at Lugogo Indoor Stadium and Ok’la Sports Arena, promising a thrilling showcase of talent from across the 12-nation Zone V bloc.
The championship will feature top clubs from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan, and Burundi, among others. Defending champions Rwanda National Police (Men) and Kenya Pipeline Company (Women) will look to retain their titles against stiff competition. Notably, Uganda, the host nation, will field a strong contingent, with Nemostars, Sport-S, and KAVC leading the charge in the men’s category, while KCCA, Sport-S, and Ndejje University Elites will compete for women’s honors.
Uganda Volleyball Federation President and CAVB Zone V Chairman Sadik Nasiwu emphasized the event’s affordability and the exposure it provides for athletes. “Our goal is to host a cost-friendly event for clubs while ensuring maximum visibility for our players,” he stated. Meanwhile, Joseph Odong, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, expressed gratitude to the Ugandan government for its support, promising fans an unforgettable six-day volleyball spectacle.
A key highlight of this year’s tournament is the integration of Ugandan national referees as scorers and court managers, enhancing officiating experience in the region. Referee Delegate Innocent Komakech explained that this initiative will help develop local refereeing standards while maintaining international officiation for match duties. The championship is expected to run daily from 10 a.m. to midnight, offering non-stop action for spectators.
