Uganda Cranes Unveil Provisional Squad for FIFA 2026 Qualifiers Against Mozambique and Guinea

KAMPALA – Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has named a 26-man provisional squad for the upcoming FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Mozambique on March 20, 2025, and Guinea on March 25, 2025. The squad, featuring a mix of experienced players and fresh talent, will be looking to secure crucial points as Uganda continues its quest for a maiden World Cup appearance.

The squad boasts a strong goalkeeping department, led by Isima Watenga (Golden Arrows FC), Nafian Alionzi (Defence Forces FC), and Joel Mutakubwa (BUL FC). In defense, experienced campaigners like Bevis Mugabi (Anorthosis Famagusta FC) and Timothy Awany (FC Ashdod) are joined by rising stars such as Gavin Kizito (KCCA FC) and Rogers Torach (Vipers SC).

In midfield, captain Khalid Aucho (Young Africans SC) leads a dynamic unit that includes Abdu Karim Watambala (Vipers SC) and Allan Okello (Girondins Bordeaux), both known for their creativity and technical ability. Promising youngster Travis Mutyaba (FK Viktoria Zizkov) has also been included, adding more depth to the attacking midfield options.

The forward line is packed with firepower, with in-form Denis Omedi (APR FC), Hakim Kiwanuka (APR FC), and Steven Mukwala (Simba SC) expected to lead the attack. Veteran striker Muhammad Shaban (Al Anwar Al Abyar SC) and exciting prospects Calvin Kabuye (Mjällby AIF) and Patrick Kakande (SC Villa) complete the frontline, offering coach Paul Put a variety of attacking options.

Uganda currently sits in a competitive qualifying group and will be aiming for maximum points in the upcoming fixtures. With a blend of experience and youthful energy, the Cranes will look to make a strong statement as they continue their journey toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
