Stars Align at Fortebet Real Stars Awards: Fataki, Akope and More Honoured

It was a night of sporting excellence and heartfelt recognition as Uganda’s top athletes were honoured at the Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Awards in Lugogo. Rising basketball talent Frank Nyembo Fataki emerged as the standout, clinching the Basketball Player of the Month award after leading SOMMET Basketball Club to a series of high-profile victories in the FUBA league.

Fataki’s stellar form saw SOMMET overcome heavyweights like KIU Titans, City Oilers, and Kampala Rockets, with the power forward averaging 21 points, 57 rebounds, and 26 turnovers across five games. Despite a narrow 55-52 loss to KCCA Panthers, his consistent dominance earned him top honours. SOMMET BC currently holds sixth place on the league table with 27 points from 17 games.

Adding a touch of legacy to the night, veteran golfer Deo Akope received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Akope, known for his three Uganda Amateur Open titles and two professional wins, delivered an emotional speech, reminding the audience that “golf is not just a rich man’s game, it’s about passion and persistence.” His journey continues to inspire the next generation of Ugandan golfers.

The awards also celebrated other exceptional athletes. Lindah Muzigo of UCU Netball Club shone in the netball category, while Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai was honoured in athletics following her silver-medal finish at the Paris Diamond League. Their recognition underscores the diversity and depth of talent in Ugandan sports today.
