AFCON 2025 Draw Sets Stage for Heart-Pounding Battles in Morocco

The stage is set for Africa’s grandest football spectacle as the Final Draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 delivered an electrifying glimpse into the drama awaiting fans across the continent. In a glittering ceremony held at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat on January 27, Africa’s top footballing nations discovered their paths to glory. The tournament, scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, will unfold across six host cities and nine iconic stadiums, promising a month of intense competition and unmissable action.

Group C has emerged as a compelling cauldron of competition, featuring three-time champions Nigeria, 2004 titleholders Tunisia, and East African neighbors Uganda and Tanzania. The Uganda Cranes, in particular, face a steep climb as they prepare to challenge two footballing giants alongside their regional rivals Tanzania, who will co-host the 2027 AFCON. This group guarantees regional pride and fierce rivalries, making it one of the most intriguing pools of the tournament.

Meanwhile, hosts Morocco spearhead Group A and will contend with Mali, Zambia, and debutants Comoros in what promises to be a hotly contested pool. Group B sees record seven-time winners Egypt clash with Southern African heavyweights South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe, while 2021 champions Senegal headline Group D against DR Congo, Benin, and Botswana. Elsewhere, Algeria (2019 champions) take on Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, and Sudan in Group E, while defending champions Cote d’Ivoire face familiar foes Cameroon, Gabon, and Mozambique in a tantalizing Group F showdown.

Adding to the spectacle, the draw was conducted with flair by African football legends Serge Aurier, Aliou Cissé, Joseph Yobo, and Mustapha Hadji, a testament to the tournament’s legacy and significance. With the top two teams from each group and the four best third-placed sides advancing to the knockout stages, every match carries high stakes, as Africa’s best chase the continent’s most coveted prize.
