The 2025 edition of the CAVB Zone V Club Championship entered day three at both Lugogo Indoor Arena and Old Kampala Sports Arena in Kampala.

In some of the games before the official opening ceremony that was graced by Uganda Olympic Committee President Dr Donald Rukare, NCS boss, Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel, Buganda Kingdom sports Minister Owek. Robert Sserwanga and CAVB Zone V and Uganda Volleyball Federation president Sadik Nasiwu saw resilient Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club losing to Rwanda’s APR 3-0 straight.
The result on the scoreboard doesn’t exactly interpret what was really on the court, KAVC, the oldest volleyball club in Uganda wasn’t a piece of cake for the Rwandese’ side.
Apart from the first set where the visitors won it with a difference of seven points 25-18, the rest of the two sets, the match went on the wire to the final whistle.
KAVC drew the first point, took the game in three points lead but at APR came stronger and squared the game at six up before they took the advantage later capitalising on KAVC’s poor serving techniques and miscalculations made at the final bend of the first set.
It seemed to be an easy take for APR in the second set but it was the starting point for KAVC to reveal it’s resilience, later took the lead in the opening minutes of the second set, went two points up at a 3-1 but reaching five points, the two sides were square, the game went throughout up to 19 up before APR separated the tie capitalising on the KAVC slight errors in serving and the second set ended 25-22.
The third set was of no difference from the second set, however with this, KAVC was in a point lead with APR trailing until when the former lost it at 20 points level, at a certain moment, the game went 23-19, KAVC lifted up the energies and the game reached 23-22 but finally APR took the day 25-23.
KAVC won the opening fixture beating Prisons from Tanzania 3-1 and to make it to the next level, the side needs to win the next fixture of group D that shall be against COBRA on Saturday at Old Kampala.
In women’s category, Nkumba beat Ndejje 3-2 in a mouthwatering encounter held at Old Kampala Sports Arena.
