A dramatic climax to the 2024/25 FUFA Big League season saw Calvary FC, Gaddafi FC, and Buhimba United Saints book their tickets to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League for the 2025/26 campaign. The three sides emerged as the season’s top performers after a final day filled with goals, rain disruptions, and fierce regional rivalries.

Calvary FC were crowned champions after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Paidha Black Angels in the much-anticipated West Nile derby at Midigo Primary School in Yumbe. The decisive strike came in a game halted by heavy rains, securing Calvary’s top spot with 52 points, two clear of their nearest challengers.
In Mbale, Gaddafi FC delivered a clinical performance, thrashing Kataka 3-0 on a slippery surface following a pre-match downpour. Goals from Jonathan Mbula, captain Thomas Kakaire, and forward Frank Kalanda sealed the win and their promotion, with the Jinja-based side finishing second on the table with 50 points.
Buhimba United Saints, needing just a draw to confirm their elevation, played out a goalless stalemate against Kiyinda Boys at Barthlem playground in Kiwenda. The point proved enough to seal third place and their historic promotion to Uganda’s premier division.
Meanwhile, the relegation zone brought its own drama. Kigezi Home Boyz survived the drop with a 1-0 win over MYDA, who were sent packing alongside Busoga United and Arua Hill. Notably, Arua Hill’s astonishing 10-0 demolition of Booma wasn’t enough to keep them up, marking a bitter end to their campaign.
The champions, Calvary FC, will be officially awarded the 2024/25 FUFA Big League trophy on Sunday, June 22. The league, a critical stepping stone in Ugandan football, once again proved its competitive depth and its role in nurturing clubs for top-tier challenges.
