Capradossi Bolsters Universitatea Cluj Defense Ahead of European Campaign

Universitatea Cluj have secured the services of experienced center-back Elio Capradossi on a two-year deal, strengthening their squad ahead of the upcoming UEFA Conference League qualifiers. The 29-year-old defender completed his medical examination in Vienna, Austria, where the Romanian club is currently holding its pre-season training camp.

Capradossi arrives as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Italian Serie B side AS Cittadella on June 30. Known for his composure, aerial ability, and tactical awareness, the Ugandan-born player brings a wealth of experience from top-tier Italian football, having previously featured for clubs such as AS Roma, Bari, Spezia, and Cagliari.

Internationally, Capradossi presents a unique blend of talent and multicultural heritage. Born in Kampala to a Congolese mother and Italian father, he represented Italy at various youth levels before switching allegiance to Uganda, where he has since become a key figure in the Cranes’ defense.

Universitatea Cluj finished fourth in Romania’s Liga I last season, earning a spot in the UEFA Conference League qualifying rounds. The addition of Capradossi is seen as a strategic move to reinforce the backline as the club targets both domestic success and a strong continental showing.

Club officials expressed confidence in the signing, citing Capradossi’s international pedigree and leadership qualities as assets to their European ambitions. The defender is expected to integrate swiftly into the squad and play a central role in Cluj’s upcoming campaign.
