The Uganda national cricket team, fondly known as the Cricket Cranes, departed on Saturday morning for Hong Kong, marking the start of their campaign in the second round of the ICC Challenge League B tournament. The flag-off ceremony took place at the Uganda Cricket Association headquarters in Lugogo, setting the tone for an ambitious pursuit of cricketing glory.
From January 28th to February 3rd, the Cranes will engage in a competitive 50-over tri-series against hosts Hong Kong China and Bahrain, with matches held at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground. This will be followed by the much-anticipated Challenge League B tournament from February 4th to 16th. Uganda’s impressive form sees them leading Group B with 9 points after the first round, held in Uganda, ahead of Italy and Hong Kong China, who trail closely with 7 points each.
The stakes are high, as the Challenge League B tournament serves as a stepping stone to the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, set to be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. The Cricket Cranes, under the stewardship of a well-rounded squad, are determined to maintain their dominance and secure a pathway to the global stage. The team boasts seasoned players such as Riazat Ali Shah, Frank Nsubuga, and Dinesh Nakrani, alongside rising stars like Juma Miyagi and Cyrus Kakuru.
