Donald Rukare: A Vision for Ugandan Sports Facilities

At a recent ceremony for the Formidables Masters Swimming Club at Waves Fitness Harbor in Ntinda, Donald Rukare, who is not only the former president of Ugandan Swimming but also the current president of the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and chairman of the Formidables, shared his strong vision for Ugandan sports. The event, which celebrated the club’s partners and recognized swimmers aged 20 to over 100 with medals and certificates, provided a platform for Rukare to express his passion for improving sports infrastructure.

Dr Rukare

While he initially sidestepped a question about politics, Rukare made it clear that if he were a sports leader, he would invest significantly in developing and establishing various sports facilities. He believes this is crucial for the continued progress of Ugandan sports, which he noted has “reached somewhere,” even if not yet at the very top. He acknowledged the government’s role in promoting athlete talent and also stressed the importance of partnerships for clubs like the Formidables. Rukare’s message was clear: better facilities are key to taking Ugandan sports to the next level.
