Fast and Furious: Uganda’s Thrilling Swimming Competition 7th edition

The highly anticipated “Fast and Furious” swimming competition is set to take place on September 27-28 at Kampala Parents School, promising an electrifying display of speed and skill in the pool. Over 600 swimmers from more than 30 clubs will dive into the action, vying for top honors in various events, including backstroke, freestyle, butterfly, and individual medley.

Competition Highlights

Age categories: 6-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 18+
Events: 100m individual medley, 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, and relay races
More than 50 records up for grabs, with monetary awards and mass courts awaiting the champions who break them

The competition will kick off on Saturday with individual medley, breaststroke, and backstroke events, followed by butterfly and freestyle events on Sunday. Relay races will also feature prominently, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition.

Similar swimming competitions have been held in Uganda, such as the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Swimming Championship, which saw Green Hill Academy, Aga Khan High School, and British School of Kampala dominate the events. The Uganda Aquatics National Swimming Championship has also attracted huge numbers, with over 670 swimmers participating in its 10th edition

Swimming is gaining popularity in East Africa, with countries like Kenya investing in swimming infrastructure and competitions. The Kiambu Aquatics Championship in Kenya, for instance, drew participants from 35 schools and swimming clubs, showcasing the growing interest in the sport
