Yasin Nasser, Uganda’s reigning Africa Rally Champion 2025

The Federation of Motorsport Uganda (FMU) staged a spectacular and unforgettable Annual Awards Gala on 3rd January 2026 at the elegant Silver Springs Bugolobi, bringing together the entire motorsport fraternity to celebrate champions crowned between 2022 and 2025. The glamorous evening marked a historic moment for Ugandan motorsport as excellence, resilience, and passion were recognized across multiple disciplines under FMU.

The gala celebrated champions from the National Rally Championship (NRC), Motocross (MX), Karting Championship, and other outstanding achievers, while also honoring motorsport personalities and media professionals whose lenses and stories continue to grow the sport. It was truly a night to remember in the world of motorsport.

The Rally Championship categories took center stage as FMU crowned the very best performers of the 2025 season:

NRC 2025 Overall Champions: Ronald Ssebuguzi and Anthony Mugambwa

2WD Category Champions: Mansoor Lubega and Ronald Bukenya

CRC Category Champions: Walter Kibande and Duncan Katumba

Walter Kibande (L)

The awards reflected years of dedication, competition, and excellence on Uganda’s rally stages.

2024 belonged to Musa Segabwe

Motocross champions were crowned across various competitive classes, showcasing the depth of talent within Uganda’s MX community. Categories awarded included:

MX 125

MX 65 (Boys and Girls)

MX 50 (Senior and Junior)

MX Vets

Karting also received deserved recognition, with champions crowned in the Pro Class, Cadet, and Ladies Category, highlighting the growth and inclusivity of the discipline.

The gala was graced by high-profile appearances that elevated the prestige of the event. ARC 2025 Champion Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba were among the standout guests, while legendary figures such as Moses Lumala and Arthur Blick Jr. added historical significance to the night.

During the gala, Yasin Nasser, Uganda’s reigning Africa Rally Champion 2025, shared heartfelt remarks regarding his historic achievement. He highlighted that while he proudly raised the Ugandan national flag and stood as the National Anthem was sung at the FIA stage during the World Rally Championship awards, the recognition he expected back home has not yet been fully realized. Nasser noted that despite representing Uganda with distinction on the continental stage, responses from FMU, the National Council of Sports (NCS), and the Government of Uganda have so far fallen short of acknowledging the magnitude of the achievement. His remarks sparked reflection within the motorsport fraternity on the need to better celebrate and support athletes who carry the nation’s flag to international glory.

A proud moment for the federation was the showcase of the FIA Award received at the FIA Assembly in Uzbekistan, allowing the motorsport fraternity to witness international recognition earned on the global stage.

FMU President Mr. Jimmy Akena presided over the awards, reaffirming FMU’s commitment to developing motorsport in Uganda. The federation also took time to appreciate media personalities INNOCENT MUTAAWE, ROBERT NKOLO, LAWRENCE MWAMBAZI, HERBERT MUKIIBI and STUART KIMERA whose relentless coverage and storytelling continue to elevate motorsport visibility and professionalism.

The FMU Annual Awards Gala 2025 was more than just an awards night—it was a celebration of perseverance, passion, and progress. From champions and legends to media, Marshalls and officials, the evening united the motorsport family in honoring past achievements while setting the tone for an even brighter future.

As the curtains closed on a remarkable night at Silver Springs Bugolobi, one thing was clear: Ugandan motorsport continues to rise, driven by champions who inspire both on and off the track.
