Soroti City Oval will come alive this Saturday as cricket takes centre stage at a vibrant Cricket Carnival, an event that blends competition, celebration, and community impact while spotlighting the enduring influence of the Soroti Cricket Academy (SCA) on Uganda’s women’s game.
The carnival shines a light on SCA’s pivotal role in nurturing talent that has risen to the national stage, with many Victoria Pearls players tracing their cricketing roots back to the academy. Their return to Soroti is both symbolic and practical, an opportunity to inspire the next generation and give back to the community that shaped their careers.
Beyond the boundary, the Charity Run & Cricket Carnival carries a strong social message, raising awareness about gender-based violence and early marriages, two challenges that continue to affect the Teso region. The initiative positions sport as a powerful tool for advocacy, education, and social change.
Cricket Uganda has endorsed the initiative, sponsoring 10 girls to take part in the Charity Run. Acting Chief Executive Officer Evelyn Kabongerwa Shinyekwa said the governing body was proud to support programs that empower young people through sport and promote safe, inclusive communities.
The day will feature exhibition matches, junior cricket activities, music, and entertainment, creating a festival atmosphere that celebrates both performance and purpose. As the Victoria Pearls’ journey continues to inspire, the Cricket Carnival stands as proof that elite success is built on strong grassroots foundations, right here in Soroti.
