History Made: Yasin Nasser Crowned FIA Africa Rally Champion

Uganda has waited a quarter of a century for this moment.

On the dusty, unforgiving stages of Africa’s rallying calendar, Yasin Nasser and his trusted co-driver Ali Katumba have finally rewritten history clinching the FIA Africa Rally Championship (ARC) and ending Uganda’s drought in continental rallying.

The last time Uganda celebrated an ARC crown was in 1999, when the legendary Charles Muhangi etched his name into history. Since then, generations of fans have waited, hoped, and believed. In 2025, that belief was rewarded.

This was never an easy road, from the opening rounds of the championship to the final decisive battle, Nasser was under relentless pressure none more intense than from Kenya’s Samman Vohra, who shadowed him closely throughout the season, refusing to let the title race breathe.

Every rally mattered. Every stage counted. Every second was fought for.

Heading into the decisive Mkwawa Rally in Morogoro, Tanzania, the margins were razor-thin. Nasser led the standings, but the championship was far from secured. It would take more than speed — it would take composure, resilience, and championship mentality.

And that is exactly what the Moil Rally Team delivered.

When the pressure peaked, Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba rose. They didn’t just drive, they fought. Through treacherous stages, mechanical demands, and the weight of national expectation, the Ugandan duo showed why champions are defined not by machinery alone, but by heart, discipline, and teamwork.

As rivals pushed hard, Nasser remained unshaken. The result was decisive: the ARC title was coming home.

For fans, it was more than a victory.

It was redemption.

It was belief fulfilled.

It was history.

The triumph did not end at the finish line, Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba were officially honoured at the FIA World Rally Championship Assembly, where they received their championship accolades in the presence of global motorsport leadership.

As Uganda’s flag stood proudly among the world’s motorsport elite, the message was clear: Ugandan rallying is back on the continental throne. This championship answers a question that echoed all season: Is it the man behind the wheel, or the machine?

The answer is both — guided by teamwork, strategy, preparation, and an unbreakable competitive spirit.

With unwavering backing, a loyal fanbase, and a car engineered to win, Team Moil proved that African motorsport excellence is built on vision and belief. This title is not just a reward for one season — it’s a statement of intent for the future.

Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba are no longer just competitors — they are continental champions, standard-bearers for a new era of Ugandan motorsport, and inspiration for the next generation of rally drivers across Africa.

Congratulations, Champions.

Congratulations, Uganda.

Africa — watch this space.
