Jacob Kiplimo Set for Marathon Debut in Star-Studded London Line-Up

The 2025 London Marathon is set to be one of the most electrifying races in history, with an all-star cast of elite runners confirmed for the event. Ugandan sensation Jacob Kiplimo, the half marathon world record-holder (56:42), is making his highly anticipated marathon debut, stepping up to 42.2 kilometers against some of the greatest distance runners in history.

Kiplimo will face off against Ethiopian legend Kenenisa Bekele, fresh off his record-breaking performance in last year’s race, where he finished second with a world M40 record of 2:04:15. Also in the line-up is Eliud Kipchoge, the undisputed marathon king, boasting a personal best of 2:01:09.

But the battle doesn’t stop there. The field is stacked with Kenyan rising star Sabastian Sawe (2:02:05), defending London Marathon champion Alex Mutiso (2:03:11), and reigning Olympic gold medalist Tamirat Tola (2:03:39). Belgian Abdi Nageeye, the reigning New York City Marathon champion (2:04:45), and Kenya’s Timothy Kiplagat (2:02:55) add even more firepower to an already loaded race.

Kiplimo’s transition to the marathon is one of the most intriguing storylines of the year. His dominance in the half marathon has made him a standout in distance running, but the 42.2 km event presents a new test of endurance, tactics, and resilience. Can he match the marathon greats in his debut?

With marathon icons, Olympic champions, and young stars all converging in the British capital, the 2025 London Marathon promises to be a historic battle. All eyes will be on Jacob Kiplimo as he takes on the biggest challenge of his career in what is shaping up to be a marathon for the ages.
