The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has launched a transformative upgrade of Jinja Aerodrome, a project designed to modernize its infrastructure and bolster the region’s tourism and trade. This ambitious endeavor forms a key component of the Civil Aviation Master Plan, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic growth.
Central to the upgrade is the construction of a state-of-the-art tarmacked runway, taxiway, and apron. Upon completion, the aerodrome will boast a 30-meter-wide, 1,710-meter-long runway, along with a runway strip and a Runway End Safety Area (RESA). These enhancements are set to elevate Jinja Aerodrome’s operational capacity, making it a pivotal hub for aviation activities in eastern Uganda.
Beyond infrastructure improvements, the project is poised to have far-reaching economic implications. The upgraded aerodrome will facilitate increased tourism to the region, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and cultural heritage. Additionally, it will serve as a vital node for trade, enabling the efficient movement of goods and services. The new facilities will also support aircraft maintenance and pilot training, positioning Jinja Aerodrome as a key player in Uganda’s aviation sector.
