The African Kabaddi Juniors Championship got underway today at Kyadondo Senior Secondary School, with teams from across the continent converging to showcase their skills. The tournament features top teams from Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Zanzibar, Tanzania, Comoros, Zambia, and more.
In the boys’ category, teams from Zambia, Botswana, Burundi, Malawi, Kenya, and Uganda are vying for top honors, while the girls’ category features teams from Zanzibar, Comoros, Kenya, and Uganda, all competing in a round-robin format.
The games were launched by Uganda Kabaddi Federation President Omara Edgar, and the host team, Uganda, kicked off the championship with a warming win against Burundi, 56-18. Kenya also made a strong statement, defeating Burundi with ease.
In the girls’ category, Uganda’s team 3 took on Kenya’s team 2, winning 34-16. The Ugandan girls played with confidence and skill, impressing fans with their bold and aggressive style.
“We’re thrilled with our first win,” said Mubarack Wandeka, captain of Uganda’s team. “We played smoothly, and I’m confident we’ll continue to perform well in the tournament.”
The tournament is being hailed as a major success, with top teams competing for a chance to qualify for the World Kabaddi Championship. “The top 14 teams will qualify for the semifinals, and the finals will be played on the fourth day,” said Mudaspack, the event organizer.
