Kakungulu Memorial School has thrown down the gauntlet in the inaugural USSSA Futsal tournament, staking a bold claim for the title with a fiery display of talent and ambition. Already giants in Hockey and Handball, Kakungulu is now setting its sights on becoming the first-ever school to clinch the Futsal trophy, a feat that would etch their name in the tournament’s history books.
Their latest triumph, a commanding 3-1 win over Seroma Christian High School, sent a clear message to rivals. Ibrahim Azako opened the scoring before Ronnie Asiimwe and Acram Nyarwaya sealed the deal with clinical finishes. Despite a lone strike by Seroma’s Collins Walusimbi Mathew, it was Kakungulu who walked away with their second consecutive victory, showcasing not just skill but a hunger for dominance.
Currently second on the log with six points, Kakungulu trails table leaders Mukono Kings High School only on goal difference. But with momentum on their side and a deep bench of experienced league players, the Kampala-based school is poised to surge ahead. Head Coach Magala Yasil credited their rise to intense preparation and the competitive edge gained from the national Futsal league. “We’ve trained at the national Futsal stadium and our players are used to the pace and pressure of this game,” Magala noted. “We came to win, and nothing less.”
Elsewhere in the tournament, St. Francis Busunju made a dramatic comeback to thrash St. Marks College Namagoma 5-2, with explosive performances from Ssali Keith and Ebedu Daniel, who each bagged braces. In another thrilling clash, Mukono Kings edged Kyadondo SS 4-3, despite a heroic hat-trick by Joseph Junior Jude. The Mukono side held their nerve thanks to strikes from Mukisa Daniel (2), Buluma Sudiki, and Afeku Patrick.
As the group stage intensifies, the race to the top grows tighter. But Kakungulu Memorial’s mix of discipline, flair, and ambition has turned them into title favorites, and with every match, their dream of making Futsal history inches closer to reality.
