Kampala Queens Fall Short on Penalties After Wasting Golden Chances

Kampala Queens’ dream run in the tournament came to a heartbreaking halt on Sunday as they fell 4-3 on penalties to Rayon Sports Women FC after a tense 0-0 draw in the semifinals.

Despite dominating large portions of the match and creating clear chances, Kampala Queens failed to convert their opportunities—a costly mistake that ultimately sealed their fate. In the first half, a defensive lapse nearly handed Rayon Sports the opener, but the Kampala Queens goalkeeper pulled off a crucial save to keep the scoreline level.

The Ugandan side introduced fresh legs in the second half in search of a breakthrough, but their forwards were wasteful, spurning several easy chances that could have killed off the contest. Extra time offered little change, and the game was decided from the spot.

In the decisive moment, Kampala Queens’ forward Zaitun Namaganda missed the final penalty, allowing Rayon Sports to book their place in the final. Kampala Queens must now regroup as they prepare for the bronze medal clash against the loser of the other semifinal.

For a side that showed promise and attacking intent, the result was a bitter reminder of the importance of clinical finishing. Yet, with the resilience they’ve shown throughout the tournament, Kampala Queens will be determined to return stronger and sharper in their next outing.
