Kyomugisha Seals Fourth Kinyara Crown as Pro Ambitions Take Center Stage

Melon Kyomugisha reaffirmed her status as one of Uganda’s most formidable amateur golfers after storming to her fourth Ladies Amateur title at the Kinyara Golf Course in Masindi. Competing under the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) three-round format, Kyomugisha—who previously triumphed in 2013, 2014, and 2023, delivered a composed and calculated performance to reclaim the crown in 2025.

Her consistency proved decisive, carding steady rounds of 77, 78, and 79 to meet her personal target of avoiding an 80. The second round, which she fondly described as “perfect,” became the turning point of her campaign. Across the first two days she recorded five birdies, three on Thursday and two on Friday, capitalizing on her extensive competitive experience in tournaments across Kenya and Naivasha.

Kyomugisha credited this year’s “perfect conditions” and well-prepared greens for keeping her confident throughout the tournament. Though she considered the 2024 edition “easier,” she anticipated, and found, a sterner test this time around. “I was sure 2025 would be tough, so I had to come and complete it well,” she noted, reflecting on her determined charge to victory.

With a fourth Kinyara title secured, Kyomugisha’s focus now shifts to her long-term goal of joining the professional ranks. She acknowledges that a higher level of concentration and refinement is needed before making the leap, but her upcoming schedule is set to keep her sharp, with tournaments in Namulonge and Kakira next week and the Mellousi event closing her season.

The competition behind her was equally spirited. Three-time Uganda Open champion Martha Babirye finished second, while Joyce Kissembo claimed fourth place and Lugazi Hills & County Club captain Joan Nampeewo followed in fifth. Defending champion Lilian Kowe of Fort Portal endured a difficult outing, clearing the path for Kyomugisha’s triumphant return to the summit.
