Lights, Camera, Kamira! MTN FUFA Awards Nominee Shines in First Season Behind the Lens

KAMPALA – Move over football stars, there’s a new name lighting up the Premier League stage, and she’s not wearing boots. Meet Kamira Asha, the lens-slinging lady turning football photos into storytelling gold.

In a season where goals were scored, trophies lifted, and tempers occasionally flared, Kamira quietly carved her path, not with a football, but with a camera. And today, at the MTN FUFA Awards 2024, she’s among the nominees for Media Personality of the Year (Women). Not bad for someone who only joined Zaabu Sports in September 2024!

Kamira Asha

Kamira’s journey into top-tier sports photography kicked off in dramatic fashion on 15th September 2024, when she covered her first StarTimes Uganda Premier League match between NEC FC and Vipers SC at Philip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo. From then on, she became a familiar sight on the sidelines, camera locked, shutter ready, focus sharp.

“She covers games like she’s playing in them,” joked one fan on social media on her X handle, reacting to one of her viral action shots. “If defenders marked like she frames a picture, we’d never concede a goal!”

But Kamira is not just a one-league wonder. Her photographic footprint has stretched across the Bika football tournament, schools football competitions, CAF games, and even other sports like netball, proving her range is as wide as a winger’s cross.

Her rise hasn’t just been about clicking buttons, it’s been about capturing moments that speak louder than commentary. Whether it’s a striker’s leap, a coach’s grimace, or the sheer emotion of a last-minute winner, Kamira’s work brings fans closer to the heartbeat of the game.

This nomination is not just a feather in her cap, it’s a whole peacock.

The MTN FUFA Awards 2024, held under the inspiring theme “Celebrating Football Heroes, Inspiring Future Stars,” is taking place today, May 30, 2025, at the swanky Kampala Serena Hotel. While the event will toast Uganda’s best players, coaches, and fans, the spotlight, at least through our lens, is firmly on Kamira.

Will she take home the prize? The shutterbugs are ready. And so is she.

Because in a world full of goals, Kamira Asha is scoring hers, one frame at a time.
