Musa Ssegaabwe: The King of Humps Who Redefined Ugandan Rallying

In Ugandan motorsport today, new generation drivers a name echoes louder than engine roars, Musa Ssegaabwe, fondly called “The King of Humps.”

He doesn’t need an introduction; he’s become a symbol of consistency, courage, and class on gravel. When his name is missing from an entry list, fans say the rally feels incomplete.

Ssegaabwe’s story reads like a fast-paced rally stage, full of surprise and triumph.

He made his motorsport debut in 2024, driving a Mitsubishi Evolution 9, a car he bought the year before. Despite being new to the scene, Musa and Mathias stormed through the Clubman Rally Championship (CRC), leaving a trail of dust and broken records behind them. Their balance of speed and composure earned them the 2024 CRC title, a feat that made the entire motorsport fraternity take notice.

Fast-forward to 2025, and Ssegaabwe, under his team Segamu 14 Racing, entered the National Rally Championship (NRC) the country’s top-tier rallying competition. What followed was nothing short of extraordinary. He started the season with a solid performance at

NRC 1 – Lumala MPU Mbarara Rally, finishing 8th after a time penalty.

NRC 2 – SMC Masaka –Ssembabule Rally, where Musa proved his potential by climbing to the podium in 3rd position among seasoned legends.

NRC 3 – Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, another 3rd place finish that stamped his authority.

NRC 4 – EMC Stabex Jinja–Kayunga Rally, finished 6th, showing strong stage consistency.

NRC 5 – UMC Tourism Fort Portal Rally, Despite tough sections, secured 5th position.

NRC 6 – CMC Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Gulu Rally, the crowd’s favorite, known for his spectacular jumps earning the title “The King of Humps.” He finished 7th, but won the hearts of many for his fearless driving.

In a season where points matter as much as podiums, Ssegaabwe and Kiyega have been a master in calculations under the new NRC format awarding 50 points per rally and 10 bonus points for the Power Stage, he’s been driving smart, balancing speed with precision to stay in contention. Heading into the final round UMOSPOC Kabalega Hoima Rally, Ssegaabwe sits 2nd overall with 241.5 points in the 2025 NRC standings. With a strong finish and Power Stage win, the dream of lifting the NRC Championship title in his debut year is within reach.

The journey from CRC rookie to NRC title contender in just two years is not just incredible – it’s inspirational. And the message is clear, Ssegaabwe came to race, to thrill, and to stay.

Excitement is already building for next season as Segamu 14 Racing prepares to welcome their new baby, a Spanish-built Skoda Fabia N5. The machine is still at the manufacturer’s workshop in Spain, but the team can hardly wait.
