Badminton Uganda has smashed open a new chapter for the sport in Northern Uganda with a transformative Shuttle Time workshop in Pader district. Held at Archbishop Flynn Secondary School, the program brought together 20 enthusiastic sports teachers, arming them with the finesse, strategy, and passion needed to introduce badminton in their respective schools.
Driven by a mission to weave badminton into the fabric of every school’s curriculum, the initiative marks another bold step in the federation’s grassroots revolution. “We want to see every school in Pader involved in this sport,” affirmed Simon Mugabi, CEO of Badminton Uganda. “With this project, talent identification becomes easier, and we can grow the sport from the ground up.” His words echoed like a perfectly placed drop shot, precise, purposeful, and promising.
This was the fourth edition of the workshop, following energetic rollouts in Rwampara, Kayunga, and Nakaseke districts. The response has been nothing short of electric, with teachers embracing the sport like long-lost allies, eager to return to their schools and light new fires of interest among students.
Nasser George William, Chairperson of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) in Pader, hailed the initiative as a timely gust of wind beneath the district’s sporting wings. Teachers echoed his sentiments, celebrating the confidence and competence they have gained, enough to start badminton clubs and nurture young talent ready to soar.
With Busia, Iganga, and Lukiga next in line before year’s end, Badminton Uganda is lacing up for a national transformation. Through strategic training, spirited outreach, and unwavering vision, the federation is planting seeds that promise to grow into a forest of shuttling stars, proof that with the right swing, even the smallest feathered shuttle can carry a nation’s dreams skyward.
