Tragic Loss: Vipers SC Striker Abubakar Lawal Dies in Mysterious Fall

The Ugandan football community has been left in shock following the tragic and untimely death of Vipers SC striker Abubakar Lawal. The 29-year-old Nigerian footballer lost his life in a mysterious incident along Entebbe Road on Monday, leaving fans and stakeholders grappling with unanswered questions. According to a police statement, Lawal allegedly fell from the third floor of Voicemall Shopping Arcade under unclear circumstances. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the tragedy.

Preliminary reports from the Kajjansi Police Division indicate that Lawal had arrived at the shopping mall in his vehicle, registration number UBQ 695G, to visit his friend, Omary Naima, a Tanzanian national residing in room 416 since February 20, 2024. Naima reportedly left Lawal in the room preparing tea and proceeded to a game center within the mall. Moments later, at around 8:00 AM, he allegedly fell from the balcony and was critically injured. He was rushed to Entebbe Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Authorities recovered several personal belongings from Lawal’s black backpack at the scene, including two smartphones, a pair of open shoes, headsets, a training kit, and chargers. Meanwhile, investigators are actively reviewing CCTV footage and conducting extensive interrogations to establish the exact sequence of events leading to the fatal fall. Law enforcement officials have emphasized that no conclusions will be drawn until all evidence is thoroughly examined.

Lawal, who had been part of Vipers SC since 2022, was known for his agility, precision, and dedication on the pitch. He had made eight appearances in the ongoing Uganda Premier League season, though he had yet to register a goal or assist. His previous campaign saw him net two goals in seven matches, showcasing his potential as a formidable striker. Before joining Vipers SC, he played for AS Kigali in Rwanda and had stints with Nigerian clubs such as Nasarawa United and Wikki Tourists.
