The United States Embassy in Uganda has officially opened its newly relocated American Center Kampala, a cutting-edge hub designed to promote education, innovation, and cultural exchange. The inauguration, led by U.S. Ambassador William Popp, underscores the enduring partnership between the United States and Uganda while coinciding with the 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence, marking the America250 milestone celebrating liberty, opportunity, and self-governance.

The American Center serves as a dynamic platform for learning and collaboration, offering visitors access to a lending library, computer lab, 3D printing facilities, free Wi-Fi, and a diverse array of programs aimed at skills development, entrepreneurship, and global dialogue. “The Center embodies America’s founding ideals,” Ambassador Popp said. “It is a space for connection, learning, and opportunity, welcoming students, educators, entrepreneurs, and lifelong learners to explore, create, and grow.”
In 2025 alone, the Center hosted over 8,000 patrons, with more than 500 Ugandans completing the Workforce Accelerator Program and 300 graduates from the Foreign Policy Executive Program. These initiatives highlight the Center’s role as a catalyst for professional and civic development in Uganda, offering hands-on training and exposure to global best practices.
The Center also celebrates Ugandan creativity and talent, showcasing murals and interior designs created by alumni of U.S. government exchange programs, including Mandela Washington Fellows Ssekkito Emmanuel and Humphrey Nabimanya. Their contributions reflect a fusion of local culture and global perspectives, exemplifying the transformative impact of international exchange.
Located on the first floor of the Embassy Plaza Building on Ggaba Road, the American Center is open to the public Monday through Saturday.
The Center reaffirms the United States’ commitment to education, innovation, and mutual understanding, strengthening the ties that unite Uganda and the U.S. for generations to come.
