UCU Crushes Kabale University 5-1 in Dominant League Display

Uganda Christian University (UCU) asserted their dominance in the University Football League with a commanding 5-1 victory over Kabale University in a Group C clash at the UCU grounds in Mukono. The emphatic win propelled UCU to second place in the group standings, bolstering their campaign for league supremacy.

Early Blitz Sets the Tone

UCU wasted no time in making their intentions clear, seizing the lead within just two minutes of kickoff. Geoffrey Oyaka capitalized on a well-orchestrated attacking move, firing a precise shot past the Kabale goalkeeper at the near post. The early breakthrough galvanized the hosts, who maintained relentless pressure on their opponents.
The intensity paid off moments later, as Wambunga Marvin Praise doubled UCU’s lead in the sixth minute. The midfielder rose highest to connect with a pinpoint corner from Patrick Ogola, heading the ball home in a display of aerial dominance and set-piece proficiency.

Unstoppable Offensive Onslaught

Struggling to cope with UCU’s attacking fluidity, Kabale University found themselves further behind before the half-hour mark. Forward Harry Abiti extended the home side’s lead to 3-0 with a thunderous strike, leaving the visiting defense in disarray.
Despite a halftime break, the visitors’ woes continued as UCU resumed their assault. Abiti bagged his brace in the 65th minute, slotting home after a well-weighted assist from Apenyo Isaac, effectively extinguishing any hopes of a Kabale resurgence.

Kyomuhendo Peter rounded off UCU’s remarkable performance, scoring the fifth goal in the 78th minute. Once again, the architect was Ogola, who notched his third assist of the match, cementing his influence in UCU’s clinical display.

Kabale’s Late Consolation
Kabale University managed to pull one back late in the match after Owanyi Michael was brought down inside the penalty area. Agaba Jovin converted the resulting spot-kick, denying UCU a clean sheet but doing little to alter the lopsided outcome.

League Standings and Upcoming Fixtures

With this victory, UCU climbs to second place in Group C with five points, trailing leaders St. Lawrence University by just two points. The result underscores UCU’s formidable form and strengthens their aspirations for league glory.
The University Football League action continues on February 21, with a highly anticipated Group A encounter. Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) will host Busitema University in Mbale at 3 PM, as teams across the league intensify their battle for top honors.
