Uganda Badminton Challenge Kicks Off with 41 Countries Competing

The 22nd Uganda International Badminton Challenge is set to take off on February 18, 2026, at Lugogo Indoor Arena, with 41 countries and 59 Ugandan players participating in the tournament . The event, a staple on the international badminton calendar since 2004, will feature top players competing in men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

“The tournament will help players gather points for the Olympic cycle, which starts in May,” says Mugabi Simon, CEO of Badminton Uganda. “It’s a great opportunity for our players to gain experience and exposure.”

Gladys Mbabazi

National team player Gladys Mbabazi says she’s ready for the challenge, having trained with her team and competed in Botswana recently. “We’re playing with top-ranked international players, and we’re confident we can make a mark,” she says.

The tournament offers $20,000 in prize money, with winners and runners-up in each category taking home cash prizes. Semi-finalists and quarter-finalists will also receive $200 each.

Ugandan players are optimistic about their chances. “We’re strong and ready to put up a challenge,” says Muzafalu Lubega, a national team player. Bring on the shuttlecocks!
