The Uganda Cranes have arrived safely in Congo ahead of their last group match in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to take place on Tuesday. The team traveled with a strong squad of 26 players, including experienced midfielders Taddeo Lwanga and Shafik Nana Kwiliriza. Goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa was the only player unable to make the trip.
The match comes on the heels of a tough 2-0 loss to South Africa at Namboole Stadium on Friday. Despite this setback, head coach Paul Put and team captain Khalid Aucho have emphasized the importance of ending the campaign on a high note. They expressed confidence in the players’ ability to deliver a strong performance and restore pride to the national team.
“We know the last match was disappointing, but this is a chance to show our resilience,” Putt said before the team’s departure. “Our focus is on finishing the qualifiers with dignity and giving our fans something to cheer about.”
Aucho echoed his coach’s sentiments, urging his teammates to remain committed and motivated. “This is about playing for the badge and giving our best regardless of the circumstances,” he said.
The Cranes’ trip to Congo marks the end of a challenging qualification campaign, and fans will be watching closely to see if the team can bounce back and end the journey on a positive note.
