Uganda Limps in a Second Straight Defeat at Vitality Netball Nations Cup

Uganda’s She Cranes endured another tough night at the Vitality Netball Nations Cup 2025, falling 60-45 to Malawi on Sunday in Nottingham, England. This marks their second consecutive loss in the tournament, following a heavy 75-40 defeat to South Africa in their opening match. Despite a promising start, Uganda struggled to match Malawi’s intensity, as the Queens executed a well-structured attacking game while applying relentless defensive pressure.

Malawi quickly gained control of the match, capitalizing on Uganda’s errors and showcasing superior shooting accuracy. By halftime, the Queens had built a comfortable lead, leaving the She Cranes chasing the game. Though Uganda showed glimpses of brilliance in their attacking transitions, Malawi’s consistency and tactical discipline ensured they remained in command until the final whistle.

The defeat leaves Uganda winless in the tournament, with only one fixture remaining against world No. 4 England on February 8. Facing the Vitality Roses will be a formidable challenge, requiring the She Cranes to significantly improve their execution and resilience to avoid finishing the competition without a victory.

Despite the setbacks, Uganda’s participation in the Vitality Netball Nations Cup offers valuable international exposure and a learning experience ahead of future competitions. A strong performance against England could help restore confidence and highlight the team’s potential on the global stage.
