Uganda will host the maiden Pearl of Africa T20 Series from July 18 to 28 at the picturesque Entebbe Cricket Oval, marking a major milestone in the nation’s cricket calendar. The event will feature five competitive teams, Uganda, Kenya, Namibia A, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Kuwait, competing in a thrilling ten-day showdown of talent and tactics.
The tournament is positioned as a vital preparation platform ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifiers. Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, Adonia Waibal, described the series as a launching pad for what is intended to become a regular fixture that draws elite teams from across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. “This marks the start of a long-term tradition aimed at enhancing the region’s cricketing reputation,” he said.

Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) Chairman Jackson Kavuma expressed appreciation to former UCA head Bashir Magu for building diplomatic ties with the Emirates Cricket Board, a move that secured UAE’s participation. Kavuma also welcomed Kuwait’s involvement, citing their fast-improving status in global T20 rankings, now just two positions below Uganda.
The competition will follow a single round-robin format, with the top teams progressing to playoffs scheduled for July 24 and 26, before culminating in the final on July 27. Matches will be played in both morning and afternoon sessions, with rest days planned for July 21 and 25. Organizers anticipate a high level of competition as teams use the platform to test line-ups and strategies.
Uganda’s national team coach, Abhay Sharma, highlighted the importance of the tournament in nurturing upcoming talent and building squad depth. “This series will allow us to explore new combinations and give younger players exposure to international standards,” Sharma noted. With Entebbe’s serene lakeside venue set to host the action, the stage is primed for a memorable celebration of cricket excellence.
