Ugandan referee dies after collapsing on pitch in front of shocked players

Assistant referee died after he suffered an attack on the pitch.

The Uganda Football Federation (FUFA) has expressed its devastation following the death of assistant referee Peter Kabugo, who collapsed and died while officiating a Sc Villa and UPDF fc game in the StarTimes Uganda premier league at the Muteesa II stadium in Wankulukuku,Kampala.

Peter Kabugo, 27, collapsed during the match in the 73rd minute  and players from Sc Villa rushed to his side just after scoring the fifth goal and called on the medical team to arrest the situation.

Medical staff then put him onto an ambulance for further medical attention

Official sources said: “All effort was carried out but Kabugo could not be revived and died.”

The cause of death for the 27-year-old has not yet been ascertained, but it is suspected that he succumbed to a cardiac arrest. Kabugo, a native of Buikwe district, where he will be buried, joined refereeing from the Kagadi District Football Association.
