Uganda’s national boxing team, the Bombers, have once again stamped their authority on the continental stage, returning home to thunderous applause after a brilliant display at the Africa Zone 3 Boxing Championship in Kenya. The team clinched a remarkable 15 medals—five gold, four silver, and six bronze—to finish second overall behind hosts Congo, marking one of Uganda’s strongest performances in recent years.
The golden gloves belonged to Fatima Nabikolo, Emilly Nakalema, Aziz Rigo, Kasimu Murungi, and Farhat Manirola, whose victories underscored Uganda’s growing dominance across both men’s and women’s divisions. Silver medals went to Brenda Muduuwa, Alfred Ojok, Edward Mukwaya, and Samuel Ochen, while Erina Namutebi, Livingstone Matovu, Alex Kanaabi, Emmanuel Tabule, Angel Katushabe, Jimmy Adriko, and Kato Kazibwe added bronze to Uganda’s glittering haul.
Upon arrival in Kampala, the Bombers received a hero’s welcome from fans and sports officials, celebrating not just their medal count but the resilience and spirit that carried them through grueling bouts. The athletes expressed their heartfelt desire to personally present their medals to President Yoweri Museveni, hoping for recognition and renewed investment in boxing’s development at home. The team will soon hand over their medals officially to the National Council of Sports (NCS).
This triumph has reignited national pride and strengthened Uganda’s reputation as a powerhouse in African boxing. For many of the Bombers, the medals symbolize more than victory, they represent years of sacrifice, discipline, and a relentless belief in the sport’s potential to lift Uganda’s flag high on international platforms.
Next up, the Bombers are preparing for an even greater test, the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Uganda will be represented by Angel Katushabe, Fatuma Namakula, Jimmy Adriko, and Alfred Ojok, who are eager to continue the momentum. With their gloves laced and confidence sky-high, Uganda’s Bombers are proving that the nation’s fighting spirit is truly unstoppable.
