Uganda’s Rising Stars Target Glory at Africa Youth Games

Uganda’s youthful delegation has touched down in Luanda, Angola, with eyes firmly set on making a statement at the Africa Youth Games. Competing across five disciplines, Swimming, Table Tennis, 3×3 Basketball, Breakdance, and Athletics, the team carries a renewed sense of ambition and national pride.

In the medal hunt, all attention turns to swimming prodigies Mary Suubi and Abner Isaiah, who have impressed on the regional circuit, as well as Joseph Sebatindira, the world’s top-ranked U12 table tennis player. Breakdance sensation George Ntulume adds flair to the squad, while track hopefuls Risper Chekwemboi, Keren Chelimo, Baskaline Cherotwo, and Kizito Loput headline Uganda’s athletics charge.

Uganda’s 3×3 basketball contingent, the Junior Gazelles, arrive with pedigree, having made history at the U17 World Cup in 2023. Drawn in Pool D against Gabon and Côte d’Ivoire, the team is targeting a strong run to the quarterfinals, which tip off on December 17th.

Table tennis receives an added boost with the inclusion of Jemima Nakiwala, who joins Sebatindira to strengthen Uganda’s presence in both singles and team events. Their pairing is expected to elevate the nation’s competitiveness in a discipline where Uganda continues to gain continental respect.

The 3×3 roster, Apio Marion, Anena Jovia, Brandina Kyalimpa, and Mwesigwa Shivan, brings depth and determination, rounding out a well-balanced Ugandan squad. With talent spread across all disciplines, Uganda enters the Games not just to participate, but to contend, inspire, and elevate the country’s future sporting stars.
