In a critical announcement, Umeme, Uganda’s leading electricity distributor, has called on all Yaka! prepaid meter users to upgrade their meters before the November 24, 2024 deadline. Failure to complete the upgrade will result in meters being unable to accept new Yaka! tokens, effectively cutting off electricity access for non-compliant users.
Seamless Upgrade Process
To make the upgrade process convenient, Umeme has integrated it into the Yaka! units purchase system. Upon buying units, customers will receive a 60-digit code, broken into three 20-digit tokens, separated by semicolons (;). These tokens serve specific purposes:
Token 1 and Token 2: Required to upgrade the meter.
Token 3: Represents the purchased Yaka! units.
Users are advised to enter the tokens in sequence—Token 1, then Token 2, and finally Token 3—waiting 4 seconds between each input for successful processing.
Act Now to Avoid Disruptions
Umeme has emphasized the urgency of upgrading meters before the deadline. Customers who fail to do so risk being unable to load electricity tokens, which could lead to significant inconveniences. The upgrade is part of Umeme’s commitment to improving efficiency and ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply for all users.
