The Victoria Pearls continued their flawless run at the 2025 Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament with a nail-biting four-run victory over Zimbabwe HPC, making it two wins in two games for Uganda’s national women’s cricket team. Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bowl on a damp pitch under cloudy skies. Uganda’s batters initially struggled against disciplined bowling, especially from Christabel Chatonzwa, who claimed two wickets. However, Zimbabwe’s 24 extra runs proved costly. Key contributions from Janet Mbabazi (26), Proscovia Alako (18), and a steady 22* from Stephanie Nampiina guided Uganda to a competitive total of 105 for 5 in their 20 overs.

Zimbabwe’s chase started strongly, with Chatonzwa leading the charge with a brisk 27. But Uganda’s bowlers, led by Mbabazi and the returning Consy Aweko, tightened the screws. Aweko and Mbabazi each gave away just 12 and 10 runs respectively in their four overs, stifling the Zimbabwean middle order and swinging the game back in Uganda’s favor.

The final overs delivered high drama. With Zimbabwe needing 18 runs from 12 balls, Kevin Amuge took a crucial wicket, dismissing the dangerous Loreen Tshuma (23). In the last over, Sarah Walaza held her nerve and claimed the final wicket, sealing a thrilling four-run win. Mbabazi’s all-round brilliance earned her the Player of the Match award.

Despite the win, vice-captain Rita Musamali called for improvement, citing lapses in aggression and field placements. “We’ll regroup and do better,” she promised. Captain Mbabazi praised the returning players for their impact, especially Aweko, Walaza, and Amuge. The Victoria Pearls next face Sierra Leone at 10:45 AM at Gahanga Oval, aiming to extend their winning momentum.
