Uganda’s women’s cricket team, the Victoria Pearls, are flying high after clinching their second consecutive T20I victory over Canada, claiming a 4-wicket win in a low-scoring thriller on Monday.
After restricting Canada to 82/6 in their allotted 20 overs, the Pearls showcased resilience and discipline with the bat, reaching 84/6 in 19 overs, led by a commanding 37-run knock from Immaculate Nakisuuyi, who was later crowned Player of the Match.
Canada’s innings was anchored by Amarpal Kaur (30*) and Terisha Lavia (19), but Uganda’s bowlers kept them under tight control. The bowling unit fired collectively, with Kevin Amuge and Naome Bagenda Jane claiming two wickets apiece, while Consylate Aweko and Sarah Akiteng chipped in with one wicket each.
In response, Uganda’s chase was steady and composed. Nakisuuyi’s fluent 37 laid the foundation, supported by Stephanie Nampiina’s useful 13. Despite some late jitters, the Pearls held their nerve to seal the win with an over to spare.
“Being named Player of the Match excites me and gives me courage to keep playing hard,” Nakisuuyi said. “We applied everything the coaches told us, and it worked.”
Uganda’s head coach Deus Muhumuza lauded the team’s growth and consistency on the international stage.
“This second win against Canada puts Uganda high on the international level,” he said. “It’s a step up for us. The team is playing with purpose, and we expect even better results as the series progresses.”
The win gives Uganda a 2-0 lead in the bilateral T20I series, reinforcing their rising status in women’s cricket and underlining the Victoria Pearls’ intent to dominate on the global scene.
