Vipers SC Clinch Historic Double, As NEC FC Secures CAF Confederation Cup Slot Sweatless

Vipers SC capped off an extraordinary 2024/25 season by winning both the StarTimes Premier League and the Stanbic Uganda Cup, solidifying their dominance in Ugandan football. The Venoms secured the cup with a commanding 2-0 victory over arch-rivals KCCA FC at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba on May 31, 2025. This historic double not only adds to Vipers SC’s growing trophy cabinet but also set in motion a significant ripple effect for NEC FC, who earned the CAF Confederation Cup slot according to FUFA’s competition rules.

As per FUFA regulations, when the league champions also win the Stanbic Uganda Cup, the CAF Confederation Cup slot automatically passes to the league’s second-placed club—in this case, NEC FC. With Vipers SC already qualified for the CAF Champions League by virtue of their league triumph, their cup victory against KCCA FC was largely a celebration and a boost to their trophy tally. Meanwhile, NEC FC can now prepare to represent Uganda on the continental stage in the CAF Confederation Cup, marking an important milestone for the club.

The cup final was a display of Vipers’ clinical precision and tactical superiority. Livingstone Mulondo fired in the opening goal within five minutes, setting the tone for the match. KCCA FC struggled to penetrate Vipers’ defense, which was marshaled expertly by goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu and the ever-reliable Mulondo. Yunus Junior Sentamu sealed the victory in the 55th minute with a spectacular volley, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from KCCA to make it 2-0 and effectively ending the contest.

Beyond the thrilling football on the pitch, the final had a touching personal moment as Vipers’ goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Rynnet Nalubega, amidst the celebrations—an unforgettable moment that added warmth to the historic victory. Tactical substitutions and disciplined play throughout ensured Vipers maintained control, while KCCA FC fought hard but ultimately fell short.

This historic double crowns Vipers SC as the powerhouse of Ugandan football in 2025, while NEC FC’s league runner-up position grants them a valuable opportunity to shine on the continental stage. Both clubs’ successes highlight the growing competitiveness and stature of Ugandan football in Africa.
