Vipers SC returned to winning ways in commanding fashion with a 3-1 victory over NEC FC at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, in a thrilling StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter. The hosts delivered a statement performance, with standout contributions from Hilary Panuel Mukundane, Allan Okello, and Isaac Ogwang, sealing all three points before halftime in what turned out to be a tactical masterstroke by co-coaches Fred Muhumuza and John Ayala.

The Venoms drew first blood in the 21st minute when defender Hilary Mukundane rose highest to head home from a perfectly floated free kick by Allan Okello. It was Mukundane’s first goal of the season, showcasing Vipers’ aerial prowess from set-pieces. NEC’s attempts to respond were thwarted by a resolute backline and a fluid midfield diamond featuring Karim Watambala, Patrick Mbowa, Moses Waiswa, and the ever-inventive Okello.
Allan Okello, the talisman from Baru and dubbed the “Prince of Lango,” doubled Vipers’ lead in the 41st minute after NEC’s defensive clearance fell kindly to him. Okello blasted the ball through a crowded box and into the net, marking his 60th Uganda Premier League goal of his career and his 6th goal for Vipers SC at home this season. The playmaker has consistently delivered in crucial moments, reaffirming his status as one of the league’s top performers.

Just before the break, Vipers added a third. A swift transition from the center was initiated by Okello, who fed Karim Watambala. The midfielder sliced through NEC’s defensive line before teeing up Isaac Ogwang, the young attacker from Atutur, who slotted home expertly in first-half stoppage time. The fluid link-up and clinical finish epitomized the Venoms’ attacking cohesion and technical brilliance.
Though NEC FC pulled one back late in the 89th minute through Paul Mucureezi— a former Vipers player who netted his ninth goal of the season — it was mere consolation. Vipers SC maintained control throughout the game with a blend of tactical discipline and offensive flair, capping off a dominant display that reinforced their ambitions in the title race as the season nears its conclusion.
