In a remarkable show of solidarity and commitment to community empowerment, Owek. Robert Serwanga, the Buganda Kingdom’s Minister for Sports and Youth, handed over 500 Kabaka Birthday Run kits to Union Boda at their Kansanga headquarters. Receiving the kits, Union Boda chairman Frank Mawejje expressed profound gratitude, acknowledging the Kingdom’s continued support for grassroots organizations. “This gesture reaffirms the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of its people. Union Boda is honored to be part of this noble cause and pledges full support for all Buganda Kingdom activities,” Mawejje stated. The boda boda community, a key pillar in Uganda’s transport sector, plays a crucial role in mobilizing the masses for events of national significance.

Owek. Serwanga lauded the efforts of Union Boda in streamlining and professionalizing the boda boda industry, emphasizing its significance in both economic and social development. “Your dedication to service delivery and self-improvement is commendable. The Kabaka Birthday Run is not just a sporting event; it is a movement that brings together people from all walks of life to champion health and wellness,” he remarked. His words resonated with Union Boda members, who committed to actively participating in the upcoming run.

The Kabaka Birthday Run, an annual flagship event organized by the Buganda Kingdom in partnership with Airtel Uganda, has evolved into one of the country’s most impactful health awareness campaigns. The 2025 edition, slated for April 6, aligns with the theme “Ending HIV/AIDS by 2030”, a testament to the Kingdom’s commitment to eradicating the epidemic. Proceeds from the event contribute to critical HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention programs, reinforcing Buganda’s role in the fight against the disease.

As anticipation builds for this year’s run, the Kingdom has urged the public to acquire official kits, available at Airtel outlets and through mobile payment options. With previous editions attracting over 120,000 participants and raising billions of shillings for HIV/AIDS interventions, the 2025 event is expected to be even more impactful. Union Boda’s participation is set to amplify the campaign’s reach, ensuring that Buganda Kingdom’s vision for a healthier and more united society remains on course.
