Power, Passion, and Promotion: FUBA Lower Leagues Return with High-Stakes Showdowns at Nakivubo

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) lower division leagues are set to bounce back into action this weekend, with a thrilling season opener scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the iconic HAMZ Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium. The much-anticipated tip-off will commence at 9:00 AM, ushering in a season packed with high-octane action, fresh rivalries, and a reinvigorated competitive spirit across all divisions.

Highlighting the men’s Division 1 comeback are seasoned contenders Power Basketball Club and Ndejje Angels, both of whom were relegated from the National Basketball League (NBL) last season. Their return promises to inject intensity and veteran grit into the league. On the women’s side, newcomers Pearl Queens and Victoria She Crocs will debut alongside returning side Lady Jills, painting a vibrant picture of promise and potential in the Division 1 Women’s competition.

The opening day will see a full slate of riveting fixtures across two courts. Court 1 will host the headline clash between Power Basketball and Ndejje Angels, followed by Lady Jills vs. Muk Sparks, Miracle Eagle vs. Charging Rhino, and PDF Tomahawks vs. Ihoops. Court 2 features YMCA Lady Ham Stars against JT Jr Lady Jaguars, Pearl Queens taking on Kampala University, UMU Flames vs. YMCA Ham Stars, Nyumba Marines vs. Diamonds, and Knight Riders vs. Tropical Royals.

The action continues on Sunday with matchups including Muk Sparks vs. Victoria She Crocs, Kampala University vs. Lady Jills, and a must-watch duel between Charging Rhinos and Power Basketball. Other Sunday fixtures will see Ihoops square off with UMU Flames and Diamonds challenge Knight Riders. Fans will be treated to top-tier basketball at an affordable entrance fee of UGX 5,000, with free parking provided, as announced by HAMZ Stadium Assistant Manager, Mr. Kasirye Hakim.

FUBA President Nasser Serunjogi reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to decentralizing league management, empowering local managers to lead operations and increase investment in the sport. With 12 teams now competing in the streamlined Division 1 Men’s league (down from 16), 14 in the expanding Division 1 Women’s league (up from 11), and 12 in Division 2 Men, the 2025 season is poised to set new standards in talent development and fan engagement across the country.
