The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has successfully concluded its second training session for sports administrators, equipping them with essential knowledge and skills to enhance their management and administrative capabilities.
Held at Kibuli SS from January 20th to 23rd, the three-day course drew 152 participants from central Uganda and the Bunyoro zone. Each district was represented by five members, comprising two primary school representatives and three secondary school representatives.
The comprehensive training program covered ten critical modules, including:
- Facilities management
- Communication and media
- Branding for school sports
- Safeguarding
- Finances in sports
- Sports governance
Participants acknowledged that the training was an eye-opener, revealing gaps in their knowledge and practices. “Before this training, we were doing many things thinking they were right, yet they were wrong. Now, we pledge to correct them until we get it right,” said Mugerwa Julius, participant representative from Nansana Zone.
Sserugo Wilberforce, General Secretary of Mukono Secondary Sports Association and Director of Latifah Mixed School Kabimbiri, expressed his delight with the training, stating, “The ten modules were comprehensive and beneficial. I extend my gratitude to the USSSA management for organizing this initiative. We promise to cascade the knowledge gained to our districts and schools, working closely with games teachers to enhance the sports experience.”
The guest of honor, Ddembe Hajarah, Principal Education Officer in the Department of Physical Education and Sports, represented the Commissioner, Rev. Dr. Duncans Mugumya. She emphasized the importance of sharing the acquired knowledge with others, saying, “Your enthusiasm for the potential impact of this training is contagious. Encouraging participants to share their knowledge with others will indeed help build a strong administrative structure.”
USSSA’s training program is set to benefit sports administrators across all regions of Uganda, with upcoming training sessions scheduled for Gulu and Jinja.
