Buyondo Herbert Thomas, both a respected priest and the dedicated secretary for the “Akasimba” clan, emphatically declared their readiness to kick off the prestigious “Bika by’abaganda” sports competition against the formidable “Ngabi” clan on April 25th, 2025.

The roar of the Buganda clans will soon echo across various sporting arenas, as the annual Bika sports competitions are set to commence in mid-April and culminate on June 7th. This vibrant showcase of Buganda’s rich cultural heritage will see all clansLock horns in a diverse range of disciplines, including the strategic board games of Ludo and Mweso, the dynamic team sport of Netball, and the ever-popular football, among others.
In the realm of football, Secretary Buyondo Herbert exuded unwavering confidence. “No clan will escape our grasp this year,” he asserted, his voice brimming with conviction. “We have honed new skills and devised intricate football tactics since last year’s rigorous training. Our eyes are firmly set on claiming the shield (Ngabo).”

The “Akasimba” clan, proud descendants of Kabaazi, are leaving no stone unturned in their quest for victory. They are orchestrating a grand launch of their team, a first for the clan, signifying their serious intent in this year’s competition. To fine-tune their prowess, the team will be actively engaging in both friendly matches and intensive training sessions, utilizing the facilities at Wankulukuku and their residential camp in Sanga. “We are determined to bring the shield home this year, a stark contrast to last year’s outcome,” Buyondo Herbert affirmed.
The clan’s mobilization efforts extend far beyond the capital city. “As the Kasimba clan, we haven’t solely concentrated our efforts in Kampala,” Herbert explained. “We have reached out to every corner of Buganda to garner widespread support and raise the necessary funds to empower our team. The ‘Akasimba’ clan is blessed with resourceful individuals who are eager to contribute.”
Adding to their formidable football arsenal, the Akasimba clan boasts players who ply their trade in prominent leagues. Buyondo Herbert proudly named a few key players: “We have the talent of Shamir Kimwero and Kiyemba Ibra, both currently showcasing their abilities at NEC FC, and the dynamic Mbaziira Ashiraf from Express FC. These are just a few of the many skilled players we can rely on. We are confident of securing victory not only against Ngabi but against all other clans, as we have strength across all divisions.”
However, the Netball landscape presents a slightly different scenario for the Akasimba clan. “In Netball,” Secretary Herbert admitted, “we currently don’t have players actively competing in the major leagues. However, we have a wealth of experience in retired players who we can potentially call upon. Individuals like Nakawungu and Mazzi, who resides along Masaka road and also a UPDF coach, possess invaluable knowledge and skills that could significantly impact our Netball team’s preparations.”
As the date for the opening clash against the Ngabi clan draws nearer, the Akasimba community stands united, their hearts filled with hope and their spirits ignited with competitive fire. The words of their priest and secretary, Buyondo Herbert Thomas, serve as a powerful rallying cry for victory.
