Canal+ Doubles Down on South African Football with Long-Term PSL Broadcast Commitment

South African football has secured another major commercial boost after the Premier Soccer League (PSL) renewed its broadcasting partnership with Canal+, the French media powerhouse that recently completed its acquisition of MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv. The agreement guarantees continued live coverage of the country’s top-flight competitions across Sub-Saharan Africa through SuperSport.

The renewed deal ensures fans will keep enjoying extensive coverage of the Betway Premiership, MTN8, Nedbank Cup and Carling Knockout competitions. League officials believe the partnership will strengthen the visibility of South African football while expanding its reach to millions of viewers across the continent.

Beyond television coverage, the collaboration is expected to drive further investment in broadcast quality, digital innovation, fan-focused content and storytelling. Both organisations view the agreement as a strategic step toward enhancing the commercial value and global appeal of domestic football.

PSL Chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza welcomed the extension, describing it as a continuation of a relationship that has played a significant role in developing the league’s profile and competitiveness. He noted that long-term partnerships remain critical in building sustainable football institutions and creating opportunities for clubs to grow.

Canal+ Africa Chief Executive Officer David Mignot said the agreement reflects the company’s commitment to African sport and entertainment. He praised the competitiveness of the PSL, highlighting the dramatic conclusion to the recent Betway Premiership season, and reaffirmed Canal+’s ambition to deliver cutting-edge football coverage while supporting the continued growth of South African club football.
