The Formidables Swim Club is set to make a spectacular entrance into the Masters swimming scene as it hosts its inaugural championship this Saturday, May 3, at the Waves Fitness Harbour in Ntinda. Excitement filled the air during today’s pre-meet press conference, where organizers detailed plans for an electrifying evening of competition under the lights, marking a bold new chapter for Uganda’s Masters swimming community.

Over ten prominent clubs, including the Sailfish, Dolphins, and Makerere Sharks, have confirmed participation, fielding their elite Masters athletes—swimmers aged 25 and above. The meet offers these seasoned competitors an essential platform to hone race strategies ahead of a packed season of national and regional Masters events, while also fostering camaraderie across club lines.
Donald Rukare, President of the Uganda Olympic Committee and Chairperson of Formidables Swim Club, expressed his passion for the event’s fresh concept. “It’s going to be a unique celebration of athleticism and entertainment,” Rukare emphasized. “Expect thrilling night races paired with a vibrant poolside party—an experience unlike any other on our swimming calendar.”
Formidables’ Head Coach and captain, Ssebanakita, struck a confident tone, pledging a commanding performance from the host club. “We are ready to set the standard,” he asserted. “Beyond the medals, we are cultivating a spirited Masters swimming culture that values passion, resilience, and unity.”
Fans can anticipate an action-packed program featuring all four strokes across the 25-meter and 50-meter events, high-energy relays, and the challenging 100-meter Individual Medley. With its blend of elite competition and festive flair, the Formidables’ debut Masters meet promises to be a landmark celebration of sport and community spirit.
