Uganda’s She Cranes have retained their position as the sixth-ranked netball nation in the world and second in Africa following the latest World Netball rankings update released on June 3, 2026.
The rankings remained largely unchanged after the May Quad Nations Series involving France, Malta, the Republic of Ireland and Switzerland, with Uganda maintaining its place among the sport’s global elite ahead of a crucial period on the international calendar.
While the rankings update brought movement for several European nations, the focus for Uganda now shifts to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games scheduled for July 25 to August 2. The tournament presents a valuable opportunity for the She Cranes to test themselves against some of the world’s strongest teams and potentially improve their standing on the global stage.
Having already secured qualification for the 2027 Netball World Cup in Australia, Uganda enters the Commonwealth Games with more than medals at stake. The competition will provide the technical bench with an ideal platform to fine-tune combinations, assess squad depth and identify players capable of making the final World Cup roster.
The Games are also expected to expose Uganda’s top performers to international scouts, creating professional opportunities in some of the world’s leading netball leagues. Such exposure could further accelerate the development of the national team as preparations for Australia 2027 gather momentum.
With their World Cup ticket already secured, the She Cranes can approach Glasgow with confidence, balancing the pursuit of results with the long-term objective of building a squad capable of competing for honours on the biggest stage in world netball.
For Uganda, the road to Australia effectively begins in Glasgow.
