Vipers Unveil Ambitious UGX 6.5bn Budget as Mulindwa Sets Sights on Bigger Future

Vipers SC have unveiled a projected budget of UGX 6.5 billion for the 2026/27 season, highlighting the club’s growing ambition to compete at the highest level both domestically and on the continental stage. The financial plan, presented during the club’s Annual General Meeting at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, allocates UGX 2.6 billion to competitions, including the Uganda Premier League, domestic cups and CAF tournaments, while UGX 2.2 billion has been set aside for administration and operational expenses.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Zaabu Sports, Vipers SC Finance Director Prof. Vincent Ssajjabbi explained that the club’s financial projections are built around a diversified revenue model designed to support both sporting success and long-term sustainability. “We expect membership to rise, we expect league prize money worth UGX 60 million and Uganda Cup prize money of UGX 50 million. We also expect income from our sponsors, ticket sales, merchandise sales and player transfers,” Ssajjabbi said. “At CAF level, if we reach the group stage, we get over UGX 2 billion. These are all avenues through which we expect to finance the club.”

Ssajjabbi also revealed that shareholders remain committed to supporting the club through interest-free loans while Vipers continue investing in projects aimed at generating independent revenue. “Our shareholders do what we call paid-up share capital, where they give the club money as loans at zero interest, as they did last season,” he explained. “Once we improve our parking, football fans will flock in because of the security guarantee for their cars. The modern restaurant and future projects such as agriculture will help us mobilise additional resources.”

Club president Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa said the ambitious budget reflects Vipers’ determination to evolve into a fully-fledged football institution capable of competing with Africa’s elite. “We’re going to work on the access roads leading to the stadium, expand the parking lot for our fans and set up a modern restaurant at the stadium,” Mulindwa said. “We want to expand the club’s reach to every part of the country and support our fan coordinators to spread the Vipers gospel to all corners of Uganda.”

Mulindwa also used the AGM to issue a warning to FUFA over the handling of club coaches selected for national team duties. “FUFA should respect clubs. They take your coach without notice. I only heard about Fred Muhumuza going to CHAN on radio,” he said. “FUFA should stop doing things in an amateur way. Let it stop now, or we shall take you to court.” The Vipers president argued that clubs deserve formal consultation before technical staff are appointed to national team assignments.
