The countdown is over. This Sunday, July 5, 2026, the Victoria Raceway Track in Garuga will transform into the heartbeat of Ugandan motorsport as drivers, riders and fans gather for a historic event, the first-ever Sprint Championship organized by the Uganda Rally Drivers Association (URDA) more than just another race, this promises to be a celebration of speed, passion and family, bringing together rally drivers, motocross riders and the next generation of racing talent under one roof.

With over 40 rally drivers and 40 riders confirmed, the championship is expected to deliver breathtaking battles as powerful Ford Protos, Mitsubishi Evos, Subaru machines, Toyotas and other purpose-built rally cars go wheel-to-wheel in a test of precision, courage and outright speed. Every second will matter, every corner will challenge, and every run will showcase why motorsport remains one of the country’s most thrilling disciplines.
The action will not stop with four wheels, Uganda’s rising motocross stars will also light up the Garuga circuit, demonstrating the skill, determination and fearless spirit that continue to put the country on the international motocross map. Expect the latest generation of MX bikes to soar over jumps and attack the circuit with incredible intensity, adding a unique touch to the event is the strong family connection within the sport.
Many of Uganda’s rally drivers are now watching their own children compete in motocross, nurturing the next generation of champions who could one day take the wheel in national rally championships. Fans will have the rare opportunity to cheer on parents battling against the clock in rally machines after watching their sons and daughters showcase their talent on motocross bikes.

URDA President Didas Masiko believes the championship marks a new chapter for Ugandan motorsport.
“This is a drivers’ event, and we are confident it will live up to expectations. Fans should expect exciting competition in both rally sprint and motocross,” he said.
The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda Acting President, Hajji Hamidu Gombe, reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to supporting competitors while emphasizing that safety remains the foundation of the sport.
“Rally drivers play a critical role in motorsport. This is just the beginning, and it will also stretch to motocross. Let us put more emphasis on safety, which is the cornerstone of motorsport in the country,”.
Running under the theme “Drive Safe, Follow the Rules, Stay Alive,” the championship combines fierce competition with an important message on responsible driving, reminding competitors and fans alike that discipline and safety are essential both on and off the track.
Garuga is set to become the stage where man meets machine, experience meets youth, and generations unite through their shared love for motorsport. The engines are ready. The drivers are ready. The riders are ready.
All that remains is for the fans to fill the stands and witness history as Uganda’s rally drivers host their very own sprint championship for the first time.
This is more than a race. It is a family day out, a celebration of speed, and the beginning of a new tradition in Ugandan motorsport.
