The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has intensified preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers after an official delegation led by FUFA President Hon. Moses Magogo conducted a two-day inspection of Hoima City Stadium and Kabalega International Airport.
Hon. Magogo, who also serves as the AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee (LOC) Vice Chairperson, assessed the readiness of the key infrastructure that will support Uganda’s qualification campaign later this year.
The inspection comes after confirmation that the Uganda Cranes will play all their home matches in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers at Hoima City Stadium. The venue will temporarily become the national team’s home ground as Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, undergoes further upgrades in preparation for the PAMOJA AFCON 2027, which Uganda will co-host alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
The visit to Hoima City Stadium focused on evaluating the facility’s progress and ensuring it is ready to meet the required standards for hosting international football matches. The delegation also inspected Kabalega International Airport, a key gateway expected to facilitate the arrival of visiting teams, match officials, CAF delegates, and supporters during the qualifiers.
Relocating the Uganda Cranes’ home fixtures to Hoima marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s football infrastructure development, with the city set to play a central role in the country’s journey to the continental tournament. The move is also expected to boost football development and economic activity in the Bunyoro sub-region as thousands of fans are anticipated to travel to Hoima to support the national team during the qualification campaign.
With the AFCON 2027 qualifiers scheduled to begin in September 2026, FUFA continues to work closely with government and other stakeholders to ensure Hoima City Stadium and its supporting infrastructure are fully prepared to host international football.
As Uganda counts down to co-hosting Africa’s biggest football spectacle in 2027, Hoima is poised to become the new fortress of the Uganda Cranes, ushering in a new chapter for the national team while Namboole undergoes its final phase of transformation for the historic PAMOJA AFCON 2027.
